Careers and progression

We want every student who studies at South Downs College to have the opportunity to achieve their aspirations. Everyone has a different goal, so we deliver personalised advice and guidance to help you succeed.

We offer impartial career guidance and are happy to help you. Whether you need support with higher education applications, part-time jobs, full-time jobs, gap year ideas, volunteering or options for further study.

If you want to continue your studies in higher education we can offer you advice and guidance. Helping you choose a course and institution to suit you. We will help you prepare a strong application and suggest areas for you to research, to prepare you for interviews.

Deadlines are extremely important for higher education applications. Particularly if you are applying for competitive courses or to competitive universities including the Russell Group, Oxford and Cambridge. Make sure you visit us if you need any help or advice about an application.

We encourage you to consider work experience alongside your studies. Work experience can give you a great insight into the workplace, enhance your CV for applications to further education and can even lead to full or part-time employment.

Starting higher education or further studies is not for everyone. Many of our students decide to pursue employment. We also provide advice and guidance on entering the workplace and apprenticeship opportunities.

We can support you with CV writing and completing job applications. If you would like to build up your work experience we can suggest ways of enhancing your CV (for example doing some voluntary work).

If you don’t have a career in mind, we have a range of resources that can highlight your strengths and help to point you in the right direction for employment.
