About us

South Downs College is one of the largest colleges in Hampshire with over 4,500 full time and 4,000 part time learners.

South Downs College was established in 1974 and has grown exponentially in both size and reputation since that date, but students remain at the heart of everything that we do. The Further Education College works tirelessly to provide outstanding educational opportunities to the local community.

We are proud of the work that we have done with young people and families for over 40 years and are dedicated to continuing to be part of the future of our region.

We are in the process of developing an exciting partnership with Havant Sixth Form College that is planned to see us merge in August 2017. Our vision is to create an outstanding further education provider to better meet the needs of our future students by building upon our existing strengths.

Together we can create ‘the ultimate student journey, as well as growth in business and community partnerships’, encompassing the right courses and programmes, lifestyle and employability opportunities to guide our students through their studies to reach their aspirational goals.

Mike Gaston, Principal, said:

“I am excited at the prospect of the new College that we are in the process of creating. Bringing together Havant Sixth Form College and South Downs College will enable us to offer the highest quality educational experience across a very broad curriculum range, and it means that we will be able to deliver the skills that are needed by the communities we serve and to benefit our local economy. “

We would like to reinforce the message to students commencing in September 2017, that we will honour all available courses and programmes for the duration of study at their chosen site.
