Hospitality and Catering is a vibrant, creative and fast-paced industry. South Downs College has a prestigious history of developing hospitality staff. Our enviable facilities include training kitchens, a fully licensed restaurant, café, bar and a retail outlet where you can gain valuable hands-on experience.
The Restaurant and Kitchen areas are equipped with the latest information technology equipment as found in major hotels and restaurants, as well as closed circuit video display monitors to record kitchen activity and provide a realistic working environment.
Since investment in 2005 the College Restaurant has received outstanding reviews from food critics and was awarded Restaurant Magazine’s UK ‘College Restaurant of the Year’ in 2009 after winning the Southern title on three occasions.
The eighty cover Restaurant provides students with a West End standard environment to practice service and management skills at lunch and dinner. Our excellent facilities are also home to several lavish banquets, themed events and functions at which students have the opportunity to work with some of the world’s top Chefs which has included guest appearances from Marcus Waring, Angela Hartnett and twice by Heston Blumenthal.
As a Hospitality & Catering student you may participate in a range of local and national competitions. We also have excellent links with local catering businesses, renowned chains, exclusive hotels, and D&D Restaurants. Providing you with the opportunity to plan and host your own events and complete work experience in top establishments.
Students have the opportunity to access the professional standard Angela Hartnett Culinary Academy which continues to set-up occasions for our students to work with some of the best chefs in the industry while studying for their vocational qualifications.
