On 4 March South Downs Campus Restaurant hosted the District Finals of the Rotary Young Chef of the Year competition. 18 competitors from all over the South (including two from the Channel Islands) took part.

The Chefs prepared a cold buffet to be tasted by judges from three prestigious local hotels. Paul Watts, Executive Head Chef of Meon Marriott Hotel, Clive Wright Manager/Head Chef of Lysses Hotel in Fareham and James Parsons, Head Chef from The Langstone Hotel.

Jonny Smith, Craft Catering Level 1 said:

‘It was a fantastic day. All the other competitors were so professional and the food they produced was top notch. I’m glad to say that I am now in the regional finals at Shaftsbury on the 1 April.’

The competition run by The Rotary Club gives young budding chefs the chance to show off their creative flair to industry professionals while developing their skills.
