In addition to its music facilities, the College can also boast very successful Dance and Drama departments.

There are seven well-equipped spaces in the East Building, most of which have sprung dance floors and two of which also have a tap-floor.

All spaces have internet access and hi-quality sound reproduction equipment. In two spaces there are large plasma screens used in the teaching of dance and drama performance. The main building contains a large “double” dance studio, enabling students to work in an impressive space during choreography sessions.

The College has a fully functional Theatre and Studio Theatre which puts on a large, varied and vital series of performances each year which are presented by the many student groups who study at the College. Musical Theatre, Dance and Acting students all have turns in the air-conditioned space and benefit from its state-of-the-art lighting rig. This fully digital system also features LED lights, giving access to literally millions of colour combinations, and the lights are mounted on electronically controlled brackets giving instant manoeuvrability. There is also a digital programmable sound system, lending performances real professionalism.

There is a large Wardrobe of Theatrical Clothing meaning students are able to mount a wide variety of period plays, and this Wardrobe grows annually in scope. Scenery for all performances in constructed in the Scenic Construction Area and this subject is taught as an additional unit which relates to part of the BTEC Drama courses.

Tickets for all performances in the Theatre are available from the College Box Office, which also produces all posters, tickets and programmes. The Box office is well resourced to give a realistic working environment for students.

Bookings can be made in person or over the phone, but must be paid for by Friday of the week before the performance. Unpaid tickets will be released for sale. Tickets cannot be reserved during the performance week.

There are no allocated seats within the Theatre (Tickets are numbered for Box Office records only). Seating is not reserved except for special circumstances (wheelchair users, school/group bookings, etc).

Concession rates are available for the following patrons: Students, Under 16s, Over 65s and people in receipt of unemployment benefits. Please bring any relevant identification with you when collecting your tickets.

Payment can be made in person at the Box Office. Cheques should be made payable to South Downs College.
