The Learning Resources Centre at South Downs is much more than just a library.
In addition to the well-stocked reference section and areas for both group and individual
study that you would expect to find in any library, the LRC also has well equipped
self-study areas with networked computer facilities and high speed internet access.
See the latest equipment information on the LRC Techblog.
Students enjoy meeting their friends to study in the LRC. It is a great place to
work as a group, or use a computer. There is also a quiet area if you prefer to
work on your own. You will find all the resources, information and help you need
for your course.
There is a lively busy atmosphere during the day with lots of students
using the facilities, and a peaceful relaxed time during evening opening hours.
Computers in the LRC are managed by the ‘MyPC’ system, which allows you to pre-book
a workstation to ensure that only you can use it during that time. This means that
if you know you have a session free and need to complete an assignment, you can
be guaranteed somewhere to work.
It is also one of the points in the College with WiFi wireless Internet access allowing
you to browse the Internet or pick up email on your own laptop or netbook.
Like the rest of the College, the Learning Resources Centre offers a wide range
of additional needs support should students wish to use it.
This support includes
friendly, knowledgeable staff who are happy to help, wheelchair access, low level
shelving, a computer station table for wheelchair users, photocopiers with low level
payboxes, headphones for computers, CCTV text readers, large-screen PC monitor,
and page magnifiers. All computers have magnification facilities and 'reader magnifier'
software.
