Physical Activity, Fitness and Exercise Science (Personal Trainer and Injury Management)

A comprehensive fitness diploma, which is the first of its kind. It offers over £8,000 pounds’ worth of technical certificates, ranging from Personal Training to Sports Massage to Entrepreneurism. Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs A* – C grade, including English, Mathematics and Science

Course Content

Year 1

  • Exercise and Fitness Knowledge (anatomy, physiology, principles of exercise, health and safety, health and well-being)
  • Planning and Instructing Gym (client interview, behaviour change, planning, and instructing)
  • Introduction to Leisure Operations

  • Employability (rights, responsibilities, CV writing and interview skills)
  • Personal and Professional Development

  • Exercise to Music

 

Year 2

  • Exercise and Fitness Knowledge (functional anatomy, physiology, principles, health and safety, and nutrition) – all at Level 3
  • Sports Nutrition
  • Sports Massage
  • Sports Injuries
  • Planning and Instructing Personal Training (client interview, fitness testing, behaviour change, planning, and instructing)
  • Fitness in the Outdoors
  • Management (people management)
  • Personal and Professional Development

How will I be taught?

Students will be taught through a range of practical and theory lessons, including independent research and case studies.

You will gain on-site clinical experience as well as external work experience.

How will I be assessed?

A range of 1:1 and group practical assessments will be required from students. A comprehensive portfolio of learning will also be written throughout the year.

Two 1 ½ hour multiple choice exams will be set at the end of each year, set at 100 questions in length. A Pass, Merit and Distinction grade will be awarded appropriately. The number of UCAS points attained will be dependent on these grade outcomes.

Will I need any extra equipment?

Sports clothing will be needed for practical sessions.

What qualifications will I get?

This course can result in a lot of qualifications, including:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
  • Level 2 Certificate in Exercise to Music
  • Level 2 Certificate in Circuits
  • Level 2 Certificate in Kettlebells
  • Level 2 Certificate in Exercise and Fitness Knowledge
  • Level 2 Certificate in Health and Safety

 

  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
  • Level 3 Certificate in Sports Nutrition
  • Level 3 Certificate in Sports Massage and injuries
  • Level 3 Certificate in entrepreneurism
  • Level 3 Certificate in Marketing
What will it allow me to do in the future?

This course is a great start for careers as a Gym Instructor, Personal Trainer or Sports Massage Therapist, either for your own business or working for someone else.

Successful students could study a degree course at university, in subjects such as Sports Science, Exercise Science and Sports Development.
