Performance BTEC Level 2 Diploma
The course is for students who have a keen interest in all aspects of performing arts (drama, dance and musical theatre) who enjoy a combination of practical and written projects.
A minimum of three GCSEs with two at grade C or above and one at grade D.
Entry is by interview and audition. You should prepare a dance (any style), song (musical theatre) or a monologue (selected from a modern play script) of your choice.
The course will give you a good grounding in all performing arts disciplines, centering on techniques and performance methods. You will have the opportunity to focus your assessments towards individual strengths, while working as a group on various projects. You will also learn to develop your knowledge of the performing arts industry, both theoretically and practically, as well as studying the context of performance material. The aim of the course is to develop your technical skills and achieve professional working methods in preparation for progression to Level 3 Performing Arts courses.

In each term you will perform before a public audience in a variety of theatre spaces and venues, this will cover a range of material, styles and genres.
Students are also required to retake GCSE English and Maths if they have not already achieved a C grade or above.
All units are assessed and graded and an overall grade for the qualification is awarded. All units periodically attract an assignment: a member of teaching staff will internally assess some of these assignments, while some units are externally assessed by BTEC.
The BTEC grades are: Distinction, Merit, Pass
In general the College will supply books and essential equipment, however you should have set of black clothes, including shoes (not trainers), and dance wear.
Each term we arrange a trip to experience different forms of theatre, the price of each trip can range between £15 – £40
Students who achieve an overall Distinction or above would normally progress on to a suitable BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma or possible employment.
Students, aged over 19 on the 1 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees. There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification. Details will be given at interview.
