Level 2 Diploma in ICT (Cambridge Technical)
This level 2 diploma course is designed to allow learners to develop their understanding and knowledge in a range of IT subjects. The purpose is to gain practical skills that allow you to progress into employment or further study. Learners will gain valuable experience in both hardware and software from setting up a computer network to creating a multi-page interactive website. In addition, learners will develop valuable employability skills related specifically to the IT industry. Students will gain essential skills in using the latest Adobe software such as Photoshop CC for graphics and Muse CC for website creation as well as setting up computer networks, selecting suitable computer components and building a PC for a client. This is a vocational course and does not require students to undertake any examinations. Instead students will be assessed throughout the year by completing a number of assignments.
Four GCSEs at grade D or above including English Language or Mathematics or BTEC Level 1 Diploma in IT at Merit Level.
The course is for 1 year and is made up of the following units of study:
- Communicating in the IT Industry
- Working in the IT Industry
- Setting up an IT Network
- Website Development
- Computer Graphics
- Computer Systems
- Database Systems
Each week, students will study the various units through theory, demonstration and practical activities, comprising around 12 hours. In addition, there will be a group tutorial and an option to re-sit Maths and English qualifications.
All of the units will be assessed through assignments and will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.
OCR level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in ICT.
On successful completion of the course students with a high Merit/Distinction profile and tutor recommendation may progress to the Level 3 BTEC Diploma/Extended Diploma course in IT or may wish to apply for a level 2/3 apprenticeship in an IT related area.
Students aged over 19 on 01 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees.
