Food Safety – Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety

Anyone who may be working at supervisory level in catering, food retailing, food processing and other food related services wishing to study food hygiene to a greater depth than is practical within the basic courses. The course is for students who wish to obtain a qualification in Food Safety. Consequently, all students on this course will be expected to enter for the assessment.

Entry Requirements

The entry requirement is a Level 2 Award in Food Safety or experience working in commercial kitchens.


Course Content

This course covers the theoretical and practical aspects of food safety including identification of food safety hazards and the control measures.

How will I be taught?

Lectures, activities and discussions.

How will I be assessed?

Your assessment for this qualification will be via a knowledge test, consisting of 15 short-answer questions. The assessment will take place on the last day of the course.

Will I need any extra equipment?

You will need a pen, pencil and notebook. You will also need a copy of the following textbooks. Supervising Food Safety (Level 3) and A Question of Food Safety for Supervisors (Level 3)


What qualifications will I get?

Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety in Catering (City and Guilds).

What will it allow me to do in the future?

Successful students are more likely to be able to undertake a food safety supervisory management role within the food industry.
