The Extended Project is a single piece of work of a student’s choosing that requires evidence of planning, preparation, research and autonomous working, generally around 6000 words long.
Students should be predicted at least three B grades at AS level, or be part of the Aim High Programme.
Alternatively, you should be registered on one of our Pre-Professional programmes (Teaching, Law, Journalism or Medicine).
An extended project could be, for example a design, a report with findings from an investigation or study, a dissertation presenting an argument, an artefact or a performance.
The finished project can be mentioned on your personal statement and can be taken to/discussed at university interviews. It is worth up to 70 UCAS points and some universities will give a reduced offer if you gain and strong grade for the Extended Project. It’s also a great opportunity to cover something that is of real interest to you.
If you achieve an A grade in the Extended Project, some universities will give a reduced A level offer.
