The purpose of this activity is to start you thinking about the consequences of engineering issues and their impact on public safety. This will link to units we will cover in your first year in engineering materials, health and safety and design and mechanical principles.

Investigate and produce an A3 poster on the Chernobyl Disaster and determine the engineering issues that may have had an impact on the fire, the escape routes and the safety measures in place.

There is a useful YouTube documentary entitled ‘Surviving Disaster’ which is a very good starting point! You can watch it below.

I overcame a couple of barriers by working really hard to get the top grades. My experience was really good, with the course and the lecturers, the residentials and activities, together it was all really good. I had really great teaching support, I could always go to the lecturers and speak to them if I needed to.
