Creative Media – BTEC Level 2 Diploma
As this is a full time programme students must have enthusiasm for Creative Digital Media Production and a willingness to work as part of a group. It would also be expected that students have a genuine interest in gaining future employment in the media industry.
Ideally, you will have achieved a grade C/D in English Language with an additional four GCSEs passed at grade D.
This course supplies, at an introductory level, the underpinning knowledge and occupational skills relevant to those who aspire to eventual employment in the media industry. It is designed to help students:
- Gain a basic understanding of employment opportunities, job requirements and working practices in the media industry
- Develop the fundamental research skills which underpin all media production
- Develop an understanding of how media products are constructed for specific audiences and markets
- Acquire skills and knowledge of practical based Media by using programmes such as Photoshop and IMovie
- Develop photography and graphics skills by undertaking practical projects.
The Level 2 Diploma is a full time course and is made up of eleven units, Two units are exam based and nine will be assessed via assignment work. Students will also be required to study for their GCSE Maths or English where applicable, in addition to the BTEC Diploma.

You will have the opportunity to use the College’s excellent video production facilities, which include mini DV cameras and editing suites. We also have good provision of IT facilities with desk top publishing and multimedia software such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe In-Design. Students will be taught by high quality trained support and teaching staff with specialist skills and relevant industry experience. The course will be delivered through lectures and workshops with a mixture of exam based units, practical projects and written assessments for students to complete.
Two units will be assessed via on screen exams. For the other 9 units you will be expected to produce portfolios of evidence which will be assessed and verified.
All essential equipment will be provided, however we recommend that you purchase sufficient notepads and pens as well as folders to organise class notes.

Students who achieve a Merit or above may progress to any of the following:
Students, aged over 19 on the 1 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees. There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification. Details will be given at interview.
