Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media

On the Cambridge Technical Diploma you will learn about working practices, research skills, media products for different audiences and markets, and practical skills such as photography and graphic design. As a full-time programme, students will need passion and enthusiasm for the subject and enjoy working as part of a team. It is expected that all of our students have a genuine interest in gaining employment within the media industry.

Entry Requirements

Four GCSES at grade D, including English Language.

Course Content

The course covers introductory knowledge and the real-life working skills relevant to those who aspire to work in the media industry. As a full-time course, made up of six units, it includes:

Introducing media products and audiences

Optional Units
  • Planning and producing a media product
  • Print-based advertising
  • Photography for media products
  • Graphic design for media products
  • Film and TV media

Students will also be required to study for their GCSE Maths or English where applicable; this is in addition to the Cambridge Technical Diploma.

How will I be taught?

Students will be taught by high-quality teaching and support staff, with specialist skills and industry experience. The course will be delivered through lectures and workshops, with a mixture of practical projects and written assessments for students to complete.

How will I be assessed?

You will be expected to produce portfolios of evidence, which will be assessed and verified.

Will I need any extra equipment?

You will have the opportunity to use the College’s excellent video production facilities, which include mini DV cameras and modern editing suites. We also have a superb provision of IT facilities with desktop publishing and multi-media software, such as Adobe Photoshop and In-Design.

What qualifications will I get?

Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Media with the opportunity to gain a GCSE in either English or Mathematics.

What will it allow me to do in the future?

Students who achieve a Merit or above may progress to any of the following:

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production (with specialised paths into either Multi-media Journalism or Film & TV)
  • Other BTEC Level 3 Diploma Courses
  • Relevant employment within the Media industry.
Course Information

Students, aged over 19 on the 1 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and assessment fees. If you are in receipt of an income based benefit please ask about financial assistance, which may be available.

This course no longer attracts government funding subsidy for students aged 24 or above on the start date of this course. To help pay for these fees you may be entitled to the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
