Catering and Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Level 3 NVQ Diploma

The course is aimed at 17-19 year olds who are interested in a front of house career at supervisory or management level in the restaurant sector.

Entry Requirements

You should have completed a Level 2 Food and Service qualification at Merit or Distinction or have relevant industry experience as well as a general education to C grade in 5 subjects, including English and/or Maths.

Course Content

This one year course will provide you with a blend of theory and practical units. These will form a complete package to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to start an exciting career in catering and hospitality.

The following are examples of the subject units you will be exploring and experiencing through practical activities and theory assignments:

Set objectives and provide support for team members
Develop working relationships with colleagues
Maintain the health, hygiene, safety and security of the working environment
Lead a team to improve customer service
Supervise functions
Supervise service
Supervise drinks service
Contribute to the provision of hospitality products and services

A major part of your course will be to work in senior roles to support the management of the College’s award winning Restaurant and bar areas.

How will I be taught?

The students will learn by a variety of methods including theory input, classroom activities, workshops, team teaching, guided self-study and practical activities.

How will I be assessed?

Units will be assesed by a combination of methods including observation, professional discussion, written questions, witness testimony, learner statement and products of work. Students will compile a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate coverage of all elements.

Will I need any extra equipment?

You will need to provide a folder in which all evidence must be suitably organised and cross referenced. You will be expected to buy a professional uniform.

What qualifications will I get?

You will gain a Level 3 Diploma in Supervision and Leadership and Level 2 Award for Personal Licence Holders. In addition, all students will reach appropriate levels of Maths and English accreditation.

What will it allow me to do in the future?

On successful completion of the course you can enter the food and beverage sector in a wide range of positions with opportunities to develop onto supervisory and management roles. Alternatively, you may wish to progress to higher education.

Course Information

You will be involved in vocational based situations in our award winning College Restaurant, cafe and bar area. As part of the programme you will be involved in regular visits and work experience as well as attending master classes given by top practitioners.

The College has links with major hospitality and catering organisations. Students enrolled in hospitality and catering courses will have the opportunity to join our Catering For Their Future programme which will guarantee an interview with participating partners/organisations at the end of the course including D and D Restaurants London and Exclusive Hotels.

Students aged over 19 on the 1st of September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination fees.

There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification. Details will be given at interview.
