Cake Decoration for Beginners

A fun course for beginners or those with a little experience to learn or develop simple decoration techniques.

Course Content

This course provides learners with an opportunity to try and explore simple techniques and gain knowledge in order to create their own design which will include:

  • Explore tools and their uses
  • Explore and develop simple modelling and decoration techniques
  • Discover how to use colour
  • How to cover a cake to a quality finish
  • Design and create a decorated cake.

 

 

 

How will I be taught?

The course will consist of demonstration, practical activities and individual help from your lecturer.

How will I be assessed?

Observation and feedback.

There is no formal assessment on this course.

 

 

Will I need any extra equipment?

You will need an apron and sensible shoes for a kitchen environment. A cake box or similar to transport finished articles.

Basic tools that you may already have e.g. Piping nozzles (No 1.5, 2, 44), non stick rolling pin, paint brushes, cutting wheel, palette knife etc.

Materials you will need to provide such as royal icing, a cake or dummy, sugar paste, marzipan etc.

Specific equipment will be discussed on the first lesson and will be detailed on handouts. Some equipment can be borrowed or shared for the duration of the course.

 

What qualifications will I get?

Students will gain a college certificate upon completion of this course.

 

 

 

What will it allow me to do in the future?

Successfully and confidently create uniquely decorated cakes.  The course can lead to further courses such as Beginner Hand Wired Flowers or Cake Decoration Intermediate level.
