Cake Decorating Wedding Cakes
This course is aimed at those who have gained the NCFE Level 1 Cake Decoration qualification and completed the Intermediate course in Cake Decorating OR those with relevant experience. In order to get the most out of your course, full commitment and high attendance is required. Please therefore consider holiday commitments before signing up to the course.
The course is for those that have completed a Level 2 or Intermediate course in Cake Decoration.
This is not a beginner’s course.
This course provides students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to complete a range of techniques in cake decorating for weddings, including:
- Looking at themes and trends in wedding cakes
- Tiering and stacking cakes
- Refine your decoration techniques
- Drapes and pleating
- Large unwired statement sugar flower
- Design and decorate a two-tier wedding cakes.
You will develop your practical skills using a range of materials, techniques and equipment in the construction and presentation of a decorated two-tier wedding cake.
The course will consist of demonstration, practical activities and individual help from your lecturer.
There is no formal assessment on this course.
You will need an apron and workbox with tools and equipment that you may already have from the Intermediate course. For example; piping nozzles (no. 1.5, 2, 44), non-stick rolling pin, paintbrushes, royal icing, cutting wheel, palette knife, sugar flower cutter, dowels, ball tool, modelling pad etc. You will also need to provide two cakes or dummies, sugar paste, flower paste etc. Specific cutters will be discussed on the first lesson and can be borrowed or shared for the duration of the course.
On completion of the course you will receive a South Downs College Certificate.
This course can lead to Sugar Flowers or other Cake Decorating courses at South Downs College.
