Cake Decorating Intermediate
This course is aimed at those that have gained the NCFE Level 1 Cake Decoration qualification OR if you have relevant experience. In order to get the most out of your course, full commitment and high attendance is required. Please therefore consider holiday commitments before signing up to the course.
The course is for those that have completed a Level 1 in Cake Decoration or relevant experience.
This course provides students with the practical skills and knowledge needed to complete a range of techniques in cake decorating, including:
- Delicate piping techniques
- How to cover a cake with royal icing
- Using patchwork cutters for decoration
- Unwired sugar flowers
- Brush Embroidery technique
- Frilling on cakes.
You will develop your practical skills using a range of materials, techniques and equipment in the construction and presentation of a decorated celebration cake.
The course will consist of demonstration, practical activities and individual help from your lecturer.
There is no formal assessment on this course.
You will need an apron and workbox with basic tools & equipment that you may already have from the Level 1 course. For example; piping nozzles (no. 1.5, 2, 44), non-stick rolling pin, paintbrushes, royal icing, cutting wheel, palette knife etc. You will need to provide a cake or dummy, sugar paste, marzipan etc. Specific cutters will be discussed on the first lesson and can be borrowed or shared for the duration of the course.
On completion of the course you will receive a South Downs College Certificate.
This course can lead to Cake Decorating – Wedding Cakes, which is the next 10 week course.
