Business – BTEC Level 3 Diploma
If you are interested in a career in Business, this course will help you develop an understanding of Business and how it operates. The course will also develop the ICT skills required for a career in Business including PowerPoint, Spreadsheets, Project Management Software and Email.
You will normally need 4 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English and preferably Maths; alternatively you may have a BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Merit grade.
If you have 5 or more GCSEs at grades A-C you may also study an AS subject or the Institute of Financial Studies Certificate alongside this course.
You will study 12 assessed units over two years, examples of which are:
Unit 1 – The Business Environment
Unit 2 – Business Resources
Unit 3 – Introduction to Marketing
Unit 4 – Business Communication
Unit 5 – Business Accounting
Unit 26 – Managing Business Information
Unit 9 – Creative Production Promotion
Unit 13 – Recruitment and Selection
Unit 18 – Managing a Business Event
Unit 19 – Developing Teams in Business
Unit 36 – Starting a Small Business
Unit 38 – Business and Economic Environment
The teaching team will employ a variety of teaching and learning strategies, including teacher input; learning activities such as group discussions, visits, presentations and hands-on use of computers.
The course will be assessed through a continuous programme of assignments.
BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Business – 6 units completed in Year 1 (equivalent to one A level).
BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business – 12 units completed in Year 1/2 (equivalent to two A levels).
BTEC Level 3 qualifications are graded Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction* and qualify for UCAS points.
The qualification will provide you with the opportunity to progress into employment or to higher education degree and HND courses.
You will be asked to contribute towards any business trips arranged by your tutors.
You will have the opportunity to take part in a period of work experience in a relevant business organisation.
Students, aged over 19 on the 1 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees. There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification. Details will be given at interview.
