Beauty Therapy – Level 3 Diploma (VRQ)
This course is designed for both 16-19 year olds and mature students who are interested in Beauty Therapy. This is a one year course to gain additional qualifications in Beauty Therapy on top of your Level 2 Beauty Therapy qualification.
Level 2 in Beauty Therapy or equivalent.
Throughout the course you will cover such topics as:
Working with colleagues within the beauty related industries – this unit covers the particular skills involved in working with colleagues in the beauty therapy industry, both internal and external. The knowledge and skills gained include methods of communication, forming good relationships and working effectively with colleagues.
Monitor and maintain Health & Safety practice – this unit will cover the importance of health, safety and hygiene within the beauty salon and the requirements for these when carrying out beauty therapy treatments.
Client care and communication in beauty related industries – this unit includes the importance of client care and communication in the beauty therapy industry. Students will learn how to adapt their consultation and communication skills to the needs of different clients as well as meeting the client’s expectations.
Promote and sell products and services to clients – this unit covers promoting and selling products and additional treatments to clients using the correct procedures.
Provide body massage – in this unit you will learn how to carry out body massage treatment while maintaining the health and safety procedures and learning the theory and anatomy behind the treatment.
Provide facial electrotherapy treatments – in this unit you will learn how to carry out facial treatments using the various electrical machines while adhering to the salon health and safety procedures and learning the theory and anatomy behind the treatment.
Provide body electrotherapy treatments – in this unit you will learn how to carry out body treatments using the various electrical machines while adhering to the salon health and safety procedures and learning the theory and anatomy behind the treatment.
Provide massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils – in this unit you will learn how to incorporate the use of pre-blended aromatherapy oils into your body massage routine.
Provide Micro-dermabrasion Treatments – in this unit you will learn how to carry out face and body treatments using the advanced exfoliation treatment while adhering to the salon health and safety procedures and learning the theory and anatomy behind the treatment.
Provide Stone Therapy Massage – in this unit you will learn how to incorporate the use of the various stones into your body massage routine.
Practical – you will carry out a variety of practical treatments within the College Salon on paying clients to build your confidence and competency ready for industry. You will need to be in full uniform at all times and carry your kit to all practical classes.
Theory – there are separate theory, anatomy and physiology lessons to develop your knowledge and understanding of all aspects of Beauty Therapy. These lessons will prepare you for your online mandatory exams and assignments.
Practical – after a period of skill training within your practical sessions, you will be assessed on your competency while performing your practical skills on a range of clients, within block sessions at intervals throughout the academic year.
Theory – classes will cover a considerable amount of Anatomy and Physiology which will prepare you for the written mandatory exams used to test your knowledge and understanding of the units.
Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy (VRQ).
On successful completion, the Level 3 Diploma in Beauty Therapy prepares students to work in industry in a variety of venues such as salons, health spas and cruise liners.
The beauty industry does have an accepted dress code and all students will be expected to comply with these standards of dress when working in the Beauty Salon and theory lessons. Facial piercings are not acceptable in the salon and must be removed before entering classes. Students on this course should allow at least 5 hours per week for home study.
Child care is available in the South Downs College Nursery. Places are limited so ensure
that you make arrangements as soon as possible.
Students, aged over 19 on the 1 September of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees. There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification.
This course no longer attracts government funding subsidy for students aged 24 or above on the start date of this course. To help pay for these fees you may be entitled to the 24+ Advanced Learning Loan.
