Beauty Therapy – Level 1 Diploma
This course is aimed at learners aged 16 to 19 years old, who may wish to begin a career within the beauty therapy industry. It will provide learners with the opportunity to develop basic skills in beauty therapy, allowing them to demonstrate and recognise how beauty therapy can be considered as a career option.
You will need no specific entrance criteria, however, a good combination of general education and a positive record of attendance is required.
You will also need a positive record of attendance and feedback from a shadow day experience would be beneficial.
Beauty Therapy – You will learn practical beauty skills including manicures, pedicures, skin care and facial treatments. There will also be an opportunity to explore basic and photographic make-up as well as creating designs for the application of face paints.
For this course the dress code is very important. As part of your course you will look at ways of presenting yourself professionally and working as part of a team.
You will be taught in a realistic working salon, practising on each other until you have learnt the practical skills. The theory will be covered in a classroom and you will have assignment work to complete. English and Mathematics skills will also form part of your course and will be included in each of your lessons.
Practical – You will carry out a variety of practical treatments within a realistic working environment at the South Downs College Beauty Salon ‘Synergy’.
You will also have assignment work to complete.
Level 1 Diploma in Beauty and an English or Maths qualification.
On successful completion of this course, you will have the opportunity to move on to a Level 2 course in Beauty Therapy.
Students aged over 19 on the 1 Septemner of the year the course commences will be required to pay tuition and examination/assessment fees. There are a number of grants available for students on low incomes and for those studying on a first time qualification. Details will be given at interview.
