Barbering Level 2 Certificate (Entry Criteria)
This is a part time course designed enhance your consultation skills and developing your practical skills in cutting men’s hair and cutting men’s facial hair. It will also help you to develop a sound understanding and knowledge of health and safety policies and procedures whilst working in the barbering industry. To achieve the standards required you must maintain consistent attendance throughout the course.
You need to have achieved a minimum qualification of a least entry 3 or level 1 in ladies or gents hairdressing.
This qualification will be divided into 4 units: Health and safety, consultation, cutting men’s hair and facial hair. You will have a greater understanding of health, safety and security practices and emergency procedures. You will enhance your consultation techniques and be able to identify contagious and non-contagious disorders.
You will learn how to cut men’s hair and facial hair (including eyebrows) using scissors, clippers and attachments and using various cutting techniques.
You will need to show that you understand the principles of hygiene and safety when performing any practical barbering skills.
This course will consist of theory input and practical skills performed in a realistic working salon. You will have 4 mandatory written exam papers. You will have the opportunity to work on blocks in preparation to your assessments. Your assessments will be recorded in your portfolio on fee paying clients.

You will be assessed by an assessor observing your practical skills and by questioning your knowledge and understanding. You will produce a portfolio of work which will be completed throughout the course. This will contain client assessments sheets from your practical sessions, photographic evidence, a candidate assessment book and a log of services completed as proof of competence.
You will need a small Barbering kit, which must be paid for before the start of the course. A compulsory uniform comprising of full length plain black trousers, a black short sleeved tunic / Shirt and black closed in shoes. You must not display any visible piercings, i.e. facial, tongue.
Please bring a pad of A4 paper and pen/pencil to the first meeting.
Information regarding the purchase/suppliers of tunics/ shirts will be provided at your taster session.
VTCT, Level 2 Certificate in Barbering.
Level 2 Diploma in Women’s Hairdressing (Full time)
Level Certificate in Cutting Hair (Part- time)
Or this qualification may lead directly into employment in the Barbering industry as a junior stylist or work as an independent barber.
If you have completed a course in the past with VTCT you will need to produce your candidate registration card at your first meeting.
