Art and Design – BTEC Level 2 Diploma
Do you want to develop your passion for Art & Design into a career opportunity? Then this one-year course would be ideal for you. Students will learn and build upon new and existing skills in a variety of areas, whilst building a creative portfolio.
A minimum of four GCSEs in the C/D grade bands, including English Language or Mathematics and an Art-based subject.
Applicants should also bring examples of their recent work, including drawings made from observation and some research and/or written notes about your work to discuss at the interview.
This course provides an exciting introduction to many aspects of Art and Design, delivered through a series of workshops and projects. A greater insight into industry practices will be gained through visits to galleries and exhibitions. Students will also have the opportunity to improve their day-to-day skills, to help prepare for work or Higher Education study.
You will produce art work based on a given brief. Each brief will allow students to explore historical and contemporary art practices, while looking at others’ work. This theory will then be applied to practice, with the creation of your own 2D/3D outcomes.
During each assignment, there is a period of practical workshops that introduce you to a wide range of art techniques and processes, followed by one-to-one help while producing your own work.
All units are assessed individually, following set deadlines. On completion of the one-year course, you will be awarded an overall grade for the qualification.
Art & Design students will work in well-equipped studios and be provided with a broad range of media and materials to work with such as glass, clay, paint, graphics, textiles and photography.
You will also have access to computers, either PC or Apple Macintosh.
A BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Art & Design can be awarded at various grades (Pass, Merit or Distinction). This is based on the successful completion of all units.
Students who achieve a Merit grade or above can progress to a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Art & Design or any other relevant Level 3 qualification.
Assignments and tests for Functional Skills will be part of your programme of learning.
We recommend you allow between 10 – 15 hours per week for home/independent study.
You will also be encouraged to participate in a variety of educational study visits which will incur an additional cost, determined by the nature of the visit.
