BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma Academy Sport (Football)

The Academy would suit a student who has a real interest in Football and Sport. It's ideal for somebody looking to go into coaching and teaching. Due to the scientific and fitness nature of the course, there are also opportunities to progress into Physiotherapy and Personal Training. Students can use the power of Football to complete a strong academic programme.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of 5 GCSEs, which must include English and Mathematicss and preferably Science. Alternatively, a Level 2 BTEC qualification at Merit or above.

Course Content

This course has a heavy academic element and consists of a number of specific Sport-related units, including Science and Business.

As well as Science and Fitness, students will experience a number of practical units, to step into the shoes of both athletes and coaches and analyse the performance of others and themselves.

The primary skills students will learn include Numeracy and Literacy, as well as communication and team-work.  The use of figures and statistics, the reading of literature to contribute towards development initiatives in sport performance and excellence.

How will I be taught?

Our academy is based on site and we have our very own state of the art 4G astro turf which we use for both training (5 hours a week) and matches on a daily basis. As well as the AstroTurf facility we have our Fitness Centre and Sports Hall. These hold a range of equipment used to enhance the performance of athletes.

Work experience will be carried out in the second year and students will have an opportunity to progress in their football playing careers.

We also give students the opportunity to visit a number of local universities to support their studies and research possible progression. Students can also visit some of the most well-known football stadiums in the country.

How will I be assessed?

Students will be assessed by written work and various practical tasks.

Successful students could go onto:

  • Coaching based employment
  • Voluntary sports opportunities
  • Higher education
  • Apprenticeship schemes.
Course Information

Offsite we have West Leigh Park, which is the home of Havant and Waterlooville Football Club. Our first team players have the opportunity to showcase their skills on these grounds, as Academy players to Havant and Waterlooville Football Club.
