Travelling To College By Bus

Bus services are supplied by both Stagecoach and First. Students using the First buses will use the Crookhorn Precinct as their main bus stop and then have a short walk to the college. First’s special services plus the 40c service will arrive at the bus stops just outside the college.

Stagecoach buses will arrive at the bus stops outside the college.

The college has a wide range of bus timetables available to the students which can be viewed online or collected from Student Services. Students wishing to travel by train would be advised to speak to our Student Service team.

From Portsmouth

Travelling to college from Portsmouth offers a variety of different bus routes for you to use. Many students use the direct 40 service straight to college, which runs a service every 15 minutes. You could also catch a number of different buses en route to Cosham and then change onto the 40 service to reach the college. From Cosham to Crookhorn Precinct it takes about 10 minutes.

First also run an additional 40c service from Portsmouth City Centre. The service starts at 8.06am until 8.20am (running every 5 minutes between these times) with a further two services at 9.35am and 9.55am. The service runs through North End, Hilsea and Cosham.

The service there after will be limited between Cosham and South Downs but will continue to run throughout the morning.

The journey from South Downs to Portsmouth city centre is an hourly service between 1.35pm to 3.40pm. The service then becomes more frequent with services every 10 - 15 minutes until 5.25pm.

Fareham/Gosport

The 52 is a special bus service in the morning and evening that runs direct from Fareham Bus Station to the South Down College via Portchester. It leaves the Bus station at 8:15am and arrives at the college for 8.50am. The reverse journey leaves the college at 4:45pm and arrives back at Fareham Bus Station 5:20pm via Portchester.

During the day you would be able to catch the 1A service from Fareham. This service runs every 25 minutes. You may use the 5/5a service, which runs a service every 30 minutes. These buses require students to change at Cosham onto the 40/40c service.

First’s 57 service which runs from Warsash to City Centre provides another service, which allows students to travel to Cosham to change onto the number 40

Students from Gosport will travel to Fareham Bus Station then change onto a bus towards Cosham. The students would then change at Cosham to travel towards the college.

North Hampshire/West Sussex

There are hourly bus services that serve these areas. The Stagecoach 37 service runs direct from Liss Post Office through Clanfield, Horndean, Cowplain and Waterlooville to Crookhorn Precinct. The service runs hourly with the last service to Liss at 5.33pm.

There is also special Morning bus service from Liss to South Downs College. The number 737 leaves from Liss Post office at 8.11am through Petersfield , then arriving at South Downs at 9am.

Students who wish to travel to college by train and bus, would be advised to talk to Student Services.

Havant and Waterlooville

Students from Clanfield, Horndean and Cowplain will use the Stagecoach‘s 37 service to Waterlooville. This service is run hourly.

Students from Denmead and Hambledon would use the 45/45A to Waterlooville and then change onto the 40 bus. First also run the 145 special service which provides a direct link from Denmead to South Downs College. This is a limited service which runs until 8:40am and recommences at 4pm finishing at 4.55pm

Students from Wecock farm would be advised to use Stagecoach’s 39 bus service, this is a regular service running every 15 minutes.

If you’re coming from the Havant Area, then the most common route is the Stagecoach’s 39 bus service. This service runs every 15 minutes.

The first service 640 bus provides a special morning service, which offer students a direct link to South Downs from the Clanfield, Horndean and Cowplain Area and arrives directly outside the college.

Travelling from Hayling Island would require using the 30/31 stagecoach service to Havant. These services run every 30 minutes. You will need to change at Havant onto to the 39 service.
