17th April 2012 | A message from the new Principal
Dear Students
I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Lyn Surgeon and I am your new Principal. I joined South Downs College at the start of April having previously been Principal of Nelson and Colne College, an Outstanding Beacon College in East Lancashire.
I have only met a few of you to date but I have been impressed by your friendliness, openness and determination to succeed.
I believe we are all capable of so much more than we realise. My hope for each and every one of you is that you work hard, listen to the right people and develop your talents so that you fulfil your potential and can follow your dreams.
The next few weeks are very important. They will be busy and they will be challenging so it is important you use your time wisely, heed your lecturers’ advice and ensure that you do not settle for anything less than your best. Don’t settle for a pass if you can get a merit. Don’t settle for a merit if you can get a distinction or a distinction star.
If you are taking exams then you don’t need to worry – you will have been well prepared by your lecturers and now you need to follow your revision timetable. Practice makes perfect and you should be working on past papers and making sure you know what you need to do to get a higher mark if you were to do that practice paper again. --- Fail to plan and you plan to fail.
The next few weeks are about your future and that is worth fighting for. Work your hardest, do your best and you will be amazed at what you achieve.
I look forward to getting to know many more of you over the next few weeks and celebrating your successes later in the summer.
Lyn Surgeon
